NEET(National eligibility-cum-entrance test) is one of the prestigious competitive exams of India. Every year, millions of aspirants appear in the exam with a dream of becoming a doctor. But we all know the paper is not so easy and requires consistent hard work and dedication to excel in this exam. Along with this, the right revision strategy in the final stretch matters as much as months of preparation.
Biology is the highest weightage subject in the NEET exam, carrying 50% of the marks. Out of 180 questions, 90 questions are from biology(Zoology+Botany). This makes it very significant for aspirants to give certain attention to this subject and score good marks to get the desired marks and college.
In this article, we are telling you the most important NCERT chapters of Biology that will surely be covered in the NEET exam and the last 7-day strategy to cover NCERT.
Aspirants often found themselves entangled in reference books, YouTube videos, and random question banks, which led to skipping the most crucial part–The NCERTs. Generally, the questions are drawn directly word-for-word from NCERT in Biology. Diagrams, definitions, exceptions and even side boxes appeared in the NEET exam as questions in past years. It is always advised to do Biology revision in the last 7 days from NCERT, as it will give the highest return.
This chapter can have factual and application-based problems related to the environment and cleaning methods, with human effects on the atmosphere.
Important topics of this unit are:
Ecosystem, biodiversity, Microbes in human welfare, sewage treatment and biofertilizers.
This unit covers a major part of the NEET exam, and students are advised to prepare this unit thoroughly with the Biology NCERT book because the biology section is mostly from the NCERT.
Key concepts of this unit are:
Mendelian genetic theory, Heredity and Variation, Pleiotropy, DNA, RNA, DNA fingerprinting, Biological Evolution and genetic disorders.
Having significant weightage of this unit in the NEET exam.
Students must prepare these chapters thoroughly:
Excretory system, digestive system, nervous system, locomotion, circulatory system, endocrine and exocrine systems, Reproduction in human beings, gametogenesis, fertilisation and reproductive health, along with contraceptive methods.
The Botany section has plenty of questions about plant physiology, and you must prepare this unit completely. This section is not very hard and is easier to score, so you must revise the following topics in depth:-
Morphology and anatomy of flowers, transportation in plants, Nutrition in plants, Growth in plants, metabolism and respiration in plants and photosynthesis.
Here's a day-wise breakdown you can follow to cover your biology syllabus:-
On Day 1, start with easier concepts as well as high-weightage topics to create interest. Revise chapters like Biological Classification, Plant Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Morphology of Flowering Plants. These chapters are fact-heavy but easily score if revised properly.
Cover everything related to the Cell unit of day 2, like the unit of life, Cell Cycle, cell division, etc. And then start with the basics of genetics, as it demands conceptual clarity rather than rote memorization so read it deeply from NCERT.
With a fresh mind, cover Molecular Basis of Inheritance- DNA replication, translation, and the genetic code. Also, pair it up with the genetics so that you remember them in the long-term.
Human physiology chapters are NEET favourites, and these are asked every year in the exam. So, cover this topic with discipline. Learn Digestion and Absorption, Breathing and Exchange of Gases, Body Fluids and Circulation.
As human physiology is a big concept and must be prepared carefully, cover the next part with a fresh mood on Day 5. Go through Excretory Products, Locomotion and Movement, Neural Control and Coordination and Integration.
On Day 6, do 3 study sessions of 2 hours each and cover Reproduction in Organisms, Sexual Reproduction in Flowering Plants, Human Reproduction, and Reproductive Health in the first session. Then move to Plant Physiology basics and do revision of both in the last study slot.
First, complete Ecosystem, Biodiversity and Conservation, Environmental Issues and Organisms and Populations. After this, in the evening, start revising all the important terms, questions, diagrams and recall everything with your short notes.

In conclusion, Biology is a mark-dominating subject of NEET, which is why it becomes important that you do proper revision, as it will significantly help you to increase your marks. Seven days is enough time to meaningfully strengthen your NEET Biology score — but only with a disciplined, NCERT-first approach; don't confuse yourself with other reference material.
