04 Jan, 2026

NEET, one of the toughest exams in India, will be conducted very soon in May 2026. The years-long hard work of millions of aspirants now depends on a four-month smart revision to turn the dream of becoming a doctor into reality. This final phase can shape your entire preparation journey if you focus on high-weightage topics.

In the final months, the goal should not be to study more, but to study smart. Regular revision, practising previous year's questions, and focusing on important chapters can significantly improve your score.

Read the article to get a clear understanding of the do-and-die chapters of NEET 2026.

How Knowing Important Chapters Helps You in the NEET Preparation Journey

Knowing important chapters can significantly transform your preparation journey. As it will provide you with a clear direction in which you have to focus. Not only this, but knowing high-weightage topics can save you from feeling overwhelmed in vast syllabi. You can put your efforts in the correct direction, boosting confidence in you, motivating you to solve mocks, and resulting in good scores.

Subject-Wise High-Weightage Chapters

PHYSICS

Physics is one of the most interesting and important subjects. But the fear in students' minds makes them score comparatively less. But if you choose to understand it instead of rote memorisation, you can do exceptionally well. The important chapters are as follows:-

Now, we are going to know about crucial chapters from these units, which you should revise constantly and make a strong hold on these topics. You must practice plenty of numerical problems from these chapters:

1. Laws of Motion and Work, Energy, and Power

The Mechanics unit is very important as 14-16 questions are expected from this unit. Students should thoroughly prepare these chapters, focusing on Newton’s Laws of Motion, the Work–Energy Theorem, and the principles of power. Consistent problem-solving is key to building strong conceptual understanding.

2. Electrostatics

Electrostatics forms a major portion of Physics and requires focused preparation. Students should develop a strong command of topics such as electric charge and fields, Coulomb’s law, electric potential, capacitance, dielectrics, direct current (DC), and alternating current (AC).

3. Magnetism

Magnetism is closely related to electrostatics and should ideally be studied after mastering electrostatic concepts. This unit carries significant weight and must be prepared comprehensively.

Important topics include magnetism, Ohm’s law, Kirchhoff’s laws, electromagnetic induction, electromagnetic waves, and power dissipation.

4. Optics and Modern Physics

Optics and modern physics are considered high-scoring areas with frequent questions in competitive exams. Students are advised to study these topics thoroughly.

Key areas include ray optics, reflection, refraction, lenses, wave optics, the dual nature of matter and radiation, and optical instruments such as microscopes and telescopes.

5. Fluid Mechanics

Analysis of previous years’ question papers shows that 3–4 questions are consistently asked from Fluid Mechanics. Since these questions are generally straightforward, students should focus on important topics such as fluid properties, buoyancy, and Bernoulli’s theorem.

6. Thermodynamics

Thermodynamics is often underestimated, but it provides a strong scoring opportunity. A good understanding of this unit can give students an edge over others.

Essential topics include heat transfer, energy changes in a system, the kinetic theory of gases (KTG), laws of thermodynamics, entropy, and the Carnot engine.

CHEMISTRY

Chemistry is another subject from which there are 50 questions in the NEET exam, out of which students have to attempt 45 questions, just like physics. Now, as we all know, chemistry is very vast, and in this crucial time, by prioritising important chapters, we can save time and effort. We are going to learn about important topics from Chemistry, which are consistently asked every year:

1. Organic Chemistry

Organic Chemistry covers a major part of the NEET chemistry curriculum. That's why it became necessary for every aspirant to pay enough attention towards preparation in these last months.

Important topics of this unit that you must prepare inclusively are:

Nomenclature of carbon compounds, structure and properties of organic compounds, covalent bonding, Lewis models and important reaction mechanisms.

2. Physical Chemistry:

In Physical Chemistry, we must prepare the following topics:

Chemical Equilibrium, Solutions, Thermodynamics, Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure.

3. Inorganic Chemistry:

Inorganic Chemistry holds significant importance in the NEET exam. Inorganic Chemistry topics are:

P-block compounds, the periodic tables and coordination compounds.

4. States of Matter:

This unit is easier to understand and helps to score better in the NEET exam. Key concepts of this unit are:

Gases and Liquids, Boule’s law, Charles’s law and Dalton’s law of partial pressure, Ideal gas laws and Chemical Kinetics.

BIOLOGY

Biology has 50% weightage in the NEET exam. That's why we can say Biology is the most crucial for cracking NEET. In total, there are 100 questions in the biology section, 50-50 from Botany and Zoology, out of which you have to attempt 45 questions from each section. And Biology covers the theoretical portion, and you can score easily in this section. But you must know what you have to study in this last vital time. NEET 2026 will cover questions from the following chapters:-

1. Ecology and Environment:

This chapter covers factual and application-based problems related to the environment and cleaning methods, with human effects on the atmosphere. Important topics of this unit are:

Ecosystem, biodiversity, Microbes in Human Welfare, Sewage Treatment and Biofertilizers.

2. Genetics and Evolution

Genetics and Evolution constitute a major portion of the NEET biology syllabus. Students are strongly advised to study this unit thoroughly using the NCERT textbook, as most Biology questions are NCERT-based. Important concepts include Mendelian genetics, heredity and variation, pleiotropy, DNA and RNA, DNA fingerprinting, biological evolution, and genetic disorders.

3. Human Physiology

Human physiology carries significant weightage in the NEET examination and requires detailed and focused preparation. Students should focus on topics such as the excretory system, digestive system, nervous system, locomotion and movement, circulatory system, endocrine and exocrine systems, human reproduction, gametogenesis, fertilisation, reproductive health, and contraceptive methods.

4. Plant Physiology

Plant Physiology forms an important part of the Botany section and is relatively easier to score with systematic study. Students should revise essential topics, including the morphology and anatomy of flowers, transport in plants, nutrition in plants, plant growth and development, metabolism and respiration in plants, and photosynthesis.

Conclusion

In conclusion, your dream of entering medical colleges requires four months of dedicated and smart study. This is the time to revise strategically, focus on important chapters, and strengthen your command over NEET concepts.

With a strong grasp of the given important chapters and topics, your chances of excelling are high. But remember to attain your goal, study consistently, smartly and have good guidance.
