Finally, the wait is over for lakhs of aspirants who were part of the Round 1 seat allotment process. The Directorate General of Medical Education and Training (DGME), UP, has officially released the UP NEET UG merit list 2026 on September 2, 2026, at the official website upneet.gov.in, for candidates eligible for the 85% state quota counselling. Candidates who registered and filled choices for Round 1 counselling can now log in to the official portal and check whether they've secured a seat in a government, government-aided, or private medical or dental college across the state.

If you are one of NEET UG 2026 aspirants you must know everything about Round 1 allotment procedure and how you can secure your desired MBBS or BDS seat

What Exactly Has Been Released?

This is the Round 1 State Merit List, and it's a big deal because only candidates included in it can proceed to choice filling and locking for MBBS and BDS courses in the state. Simply qualifying NEET UG isn't enough — your name needs to appear on this state-specific list to move forward in UP's counselling process.

The merit list covers admission to 85% State Quota MBBS and BDS seats across Government and Private Medical and Dental Colleges in Uttar Pradesh, and it comes right after candidates completed their registration, document verification, and fee payment.

What Information Will You Find on the List?

When you will open the official PDF you will find your NEET UG Roll number, and All India Rank along with your UP state Merit Rank. Also, you must carefully check your name, father's name and other details as any minor mistakes here can create problems in future so be smart enough and report it to the counselling authority if you spot any discrepancy.

Does Being on the List Guarantee a Seat?

This is where many first-time aspirants get confused. The answer is NO. Inclusion in the merit list only confirms your eligibility to participate in the subsequent stages of counselling.

Your actual seat depends on your state merit rank, NEET AIR, category, reservation status, the choices you fill, and seat availability at the time of allotment.

In other words, the merit list is your ticket to the game, not the trophy. What you do next — how strategically you fill your choices — will decide where you actually land.

What Happens After the Merit List?

Once your name is confirmed, the process moves through a few well-defined stages:

•Choice Filling & Locking: You select and rank your preferred MBBS/BDS colleges based on your interests, location preference, and rank realism, then lock in your final choices before the deadline.

•Seat Allotment: DGME UP releases the seat allotment results based on your rank, category, and the choices you locked.

•Document Verification & Reporting: If you are allotted a seat you must download the certificate when you see the result and keep it with you for documents verification along with other documents.

•Fee Payment & Confirmation:Pay the given amount of fees to confirm your seat after documents verification.

Further Rounds: If you're not allotted a seat, or want to try for an upgrade, you can participate in subsequent counselling rounds, so stay connected with the official website.

It's also worth keeping the seat-security deposit amounts handy while planning your choices: Rs. 30,000 (refundable) for government colleges, Rs. 2,00,000 (refundable) for private MBBS colleges, and Rs. 1,00,000 (refundable) for private BDS colleges.

A Quick Word of Advice for Aspirants

The counselling process can feel overwhelming at some point. So, follow these tips to stay ahead:-
