09 Sep, 2026

After so much waiting, the Round 2 seat matrix has been officially released by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). When the Round 1 seat is released thousands of aspirants remain waiting to get their name and that has been ended.

The Round 2 seat matrix for NEET UG 2026 counselling is packed with fresh opportunities for candidates hoping to get — or upgrade — their MBBS, BDS, or BSc Nursing seat.

What Exactly Got Released?

MCC released the Round 2 seat matrix on September 3, covering MBBS, BDS, and BSc Nursing seats available under the All India Quota, deemed universities, central universities, and other participating institutes.

In plain terms: This is the master list every candidate needs before they start locking in their choices for this round.

The numbers are significant. The seat matrix shows a total of 12,283 seats available as virtual vacancy and 11,302 seats available as clear vacancy. That's a substantial pool for candidates who missed out in Round 1 or want to upgrade seats.

The Headline: 659 New Seats

Here's the part that has everyone talking. MCC has added 659 new MBBS, BDS, and BSc Nursing seats specifically for the Round 2 counselling process. These aren't seats that simply fell vacant — they're genuinely new additions reported by participating institutes after Round 1 concluded, effectively expanding the total pool available this round.

For context on scale, Round 1 counselling saw MCC allot over 29,000 seats out of a total of 31,728 seats that were offered. Round 2 is now building on that base, giving thousands more candidates a shot at securing admission.

Where Are These New Seats Coming From?

MCC has been transparent about the source of these additions, updating the matrix almost daily as institutes report fresh data. As of September 5, MCC added 30 MBBS seats based on information received from participating institutes — 15 at Bagalkote Medical College and Research Institute, 7 at Government Medical College, Chapra (Saran), and 8 at Shri Ram Janki Medical College and Hospital, Samastipur. All these additions fall under the All India

Quota and are distributed across the standard reservation categories — UR, SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and PwD.

This rolling update pattern means the seat matrix isn't a one-time static document — it's a living list that could see further tweaks right up until choice locking closes. So even if you've already glanced at it once, it's worth checking back before you finalize your preferences.

Why This Matters for Round 2 Candidates

The Round 2 seat matrix matters most for three groups: candidates who weren't allotted any seat in Round 1, candidates who were allotted a seat but didn't join it, and candidates who are participating in Round 2 purely to upgrade their existing allotment. If you fall into any of these buckets, this matrix is your roadmap.

It's also worth understanding where these vacancies actually come from. Round 2 vacancies typically consist of seats left over after Round 1, seats that were surrendered or resigned by candidates who backed out, and any fresh additions or modifications reported by participating institutes. That's exactly why the "newly added" list and the broader vacancy list are published as separate documents — they tell different stories about how the seat pool has evolved.

Key Dates You Cannot Miss
